Before discovering One Degree, Nicole was working two “not great” part-time jobs to support herself and her mom, and was ready for a career change. When she began researching and applying for higher-level jobs, Nicole realized that she had fallen behind on acquiring some marketable skills and experience. She had spent much of her life working in the performing arts, and she wasn’t sure how to develop skills that would help her in the professional world.

It can feel like no one is out there trying to help people in your position, but One Degree demonstrated that people are actively working to improve the situation... it was truly a godsend.

When Nicole heard One Degree mentioned in a Khan Academy video, she was very interested and began using the platform immediately. She was impressed by how detailed the opportunity pages were, saying, “[One Degree] does more thorough research than I have been able to do.

Using One Degree, Nicole has been able to find opportunities to develop her professional skills through organizations like the St. Joseph’s Center. Nicole is looking forward to developing her skills and finding a professional job that gives her and her family the stability they deserve. She is glad that One Degree offers information about resources that support people who want to advance their careers, saying, “It can feel like no one is out there trying to help people in your position, but One Degree demonstrated that people are actively working to improve the situation.” Nicole discovered One Degree at a time when money was tight, she needed to make some changes in her life, and she needed some help figuring out her next steps. She believes that it was truly “a godsend.”
